1998 Land Rover Defender 90 50th Anniversary | 4.0 V8 | Automatic | 1 of 1,071Created to celebrate 50 years of Land Rover, the Defender 90 50th Anniversary is one of the most distinctive factory special editions from the original Defender era.
Limited to just 1,071 examples worldwide, the 50th Anniversary combined the iconic short-wheelbase Defender body with Land Rover’s naturally aspirated 4.0-litre Rover V8 and four-speed automatic transmission — a particularly unusual combination and the first automatic Defender offered outside North America.
The classic Defender construction combines aluminium-alloy bodywork with a separate steel ladder chassis, giving these early Defenders their unmistakable lightweight, utilitarian character.
Inside, the grey cloth cabin retains the simple original Defender layout, complemented by a Nardi Torino steering wheel, air conditioning and rear inward-facing seating. A modern touchscreen infotainment system with reverse camera has also been fitted, improving day-to-day usability without fundamentally changing the character of the interior.
