2000 Porsche 911 GT3 (996.1) | Guards Red | Mezger Homologation IconSome cars become collectible because they are rare.
Others because they changed everything.
The 996.1 GT3 is both.
As the first ever road-going GT3, this was Porsche’s homologation special — developed in the spirit of the legendary RS cars before it, and powered by the motorsport-derived Mezger flat-six with roots tracing back to the 911 GT1.
This 2000 example, finished in iconic Guards Red, presents exceptionally well and remains in highly original condition — something increasingly difficult to find.
With factory sports bucket seats, full Clubsport roll cage, CD stacker delete and wonderfully honest presentation throughout, it captures exactly what made the first GT3 so special.
Never raced, carefully kept and recently detailed, the car presents superbly. The paintwork has excellent depth, wheels are beautifully presented, and the interior remains remarkably clean and correct.
With approximately 1,868 examples produced worldwide , the 996.1 has long moved from “used Porsche” to recognised modern collectible — and rightly so.
Originally delivered in South Africa and now offered in a particularly desirable specification, this is the kind of GT3 enthusiasts search for.

No U.S. market deliveries when new — growing global demand narrative as 25-year eligibility arrives
The beauty of the 996.1 GT3 is that it still feels compact, alive and intimate. It has that rare “go-kart” lightness people talk about — not as cliché, but as reality.
It is as rewarding on a fast road as it is significant in Porsche’s GT lineage.
Cars like this are no longer simply bought to drive, they are chosen, curated and held.
Presented through our Kingsgrove, Sydney showroom. Inspections strictly by appointment.
